If you have no fear of God or an eternal life in Hell, why do we need to keep God’s word in our hearts? Isaiah 50:10 “Who among you fears the LORD? Who obeys the voice of His Servant? Who walks in darkness And has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD And rely upon his God” James 1:15″Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death” Hebrews 10:31 “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” God is our heavenly Father and like our own children who love us but fear our wrath and discipline when they do wrong, so should mankind be of a Holy God. Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.
Modern mankind and Christians have no fear of the power of God to heal as well as punish their disobedience to God’s righteousness and ways found in His word. Instead mankind places our reverence and faith into science, medicine, philosophies, careers and other things that make us confident in our own abilities. The one thing we overlook, even in our churches, is the Fear of God. Living a life without morals or values based upon the word of God has consequences for each of our choices and actions. We cannot praise God on Sunday morning and then get drunk watching football games with our friends on Sunday Afternoon. We cannot receive God’s blessings and spend them upon ourselves in bigger more lavish houses, cars, jewelry, clothes when there are the hurting souls who need food, clothing and widows and children that need our assistance. We cannot enjoy all of God’s mercies and then show no mercy or compassion to our fellow mankind.
The fear of God helps us to stay in the right perspective and walk in obedience, with reverence and gracious love for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Matthew 10:28″And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” Sin destroys the soul much like addictions destroy the flesh. We must be tempered by the fear of God and remember that sin has an eternal effect on our souls. This perspective tells us that this moment of pleasure is a fleeting thing compared to all eternity. Psalm 89:7 “God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints (CHURCHES), And to be held in reverence by all those around Him”
The bible tells us to have accountability partners to help us stand together and knell before God. 2 Corinthians 7:1 “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.” Ephesians 5:21 submitting to one another in the fear of God” By men talking to men and women with women, we can help each other avoid sin and continue to walk in obedience and reverent fear of the Lord out of love and faith in His grace and mercies. Walk, trust, believe and fear the Holiness of our God.
