Our Attitudes Creates Our Environment

The old express When life gives you lemons make lemonade” is an example of a positive attitude and how to turn a sour, negative thing aka lemons, into something tasty and good aka lemonade.  You see you need lemons to be able to create lemonade, without it, you cannot share it with others.

Our attitudes shape our perception of the life we have and the things we do or do not have.  Paul said in Philippians 4:10″ I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. 11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need”

So what happens when we have a negative attitude and we are constantly complaining about our job, our spouse, our children, our finances or other aspects of our seemingly terrible fate we were handed?   It creates wrong thinking that will put us into a state of continual misery and make wrong choices out of desperation, or hurt, that will further increase our negativity.  Our life can seem miserable at times and be filled with a lot of hurt during times of grieving like divorce, death, illness and other bad situations but these are just passing moments in the time line of life.  It is  our attitude that can keep us trapped in a state of depression, unforgiveness or hurt for a long time. It is this same inward negative attitude that expresses itself outward in our speech, mannerism and actions that will further distance us from our friends and family.  If we do not deal with bitterness, unforgiveness and our past hurts in a healthy manner we will not heal in our body, mind, emotions or our souls.  Healing begins when we are willing to take the responsibility for our choices and actions and then decide we no longer want it.  Then we have to take actions to heal, like going to a Doctor and being told to take medicine.  If we do not take the medicine we will become sicker and lead to other more harmful illnesses like pneumonia or a decrease in our mental health.  Nobody wants to be around a constant complainer for very long and will eventually go out of their way to avoid us.  What often holds us back from a promotion or a relationship working right is not necessary our knowledge but our negative attitude.  When our pride marries our negativity, we can become hell on earth.  This wrong attitude leads us to take it out on others and we can be miserable to be near.

It is our responsibility to keep our own attitude healthy and to look on the brighter side of life.  Only I can make my choices on how I react to a scenario.   My old friend Morgan Smith said to me “Only I can rain on my own parade.”  Paul said in Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things”   Why? because when we focus on the good things we have in humility we begin to see the true scope of our situations.  When you compare these moments in time to all eternity they seem less painful.   We can learn to rejoice through our pain and embrace it, push through it and heal and in turn we make those around us comfortable. We can learn to praise God in the midst of our pain so that He is exalted and this will influence others to want a God like yours.  When our attitude is that of gratitude to God for the sunshine and the rain, then we can walk in joy, peace and treat those around us with a uplifting and encouraging word.  Pastor Joe Putting http://www.joeputting.com is one of the most joyful Christian pastors and you would never know that he is battling cancer.  He gives God praise and Glory for everything in his life both good and bad because He knows that in the end, he will be with God forever in heaven.  This type of thinking helps us to keep the right perspectives in our lives and minimizes the moments in time filled with hurt and strengthens us to carry on.  Ephesians 4:23“to be made new in the attitude of your minds;” Hebrews 4:12″For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”

So remember, the whoa is me, have pity on me, my life is so miserable, this reflects our faith and love for God to all those who stand around us, watching to see if our God is real. Do we realize what type of witness that is for a great God full of mercy, grace and love?  Jesus tells us that a light on a hill cannot be hidden nor if salt loses it flavor is it of any value, so is a Christian with a negative attitude who reflects negatively on God by complaining about their life.  Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.  14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

The How to BE-ATTITUDES

Matthew 5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,  For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are those who mourn,  For they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,  For they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,  For they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,  For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

SO DON’T YOU THINK IT IS TIME THAT WE GET OVER OURSELVES…be positive!

John 3:30“He must increase, but I must decrease”
