Listening to others provides discernment into their lives including their passions, areas of pain and desires of their hearts. When we truly listen to others it becomes clearer what they believe and why. Research has shown that verbal communication conveys information while nonverbal body language conveys attitudes, emotions and even statements. (Heb 5:14 ESV) “ But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.”
Discern the truth by studying the persons true motivations and desires so you can perceive the direction of their hearts. Jesus (Yeshua) tells us in Matthew 15:18″But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.” WOW! Psalm 5:9″Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with malice. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they tell lies.” Psalm 17:3 “Though you probe my heart, though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil; my mouth has not transgressed.” Proverbs 16:23″The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent, and their lips promote instruction.” So how should we be? Psalm 19:14 “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
(1Ki 3:9 ESV) Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”
(1Ki 3:11 ESV) And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right,
(Job 4:16 ESV) It stood still, but I could not discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes; there was silence, then I heard a voice:
