Listening to others provides discernment into their lives including their passions, areas of pain and desires of their hearts. When we truly listen to others it becomes clearer what they believe and why. Research has shown that verbal communication conveys information while nonverbal body language conveys attitudes, emotions and even statements. (Heb 5:14 ESV) “ But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.”

Discern the truth by studying the persons true motivations and desires so you can perceive the direction of their hearts. Jesus (Yeshua) tells us in Matthew 15:18″But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.” WOW! Psalm 5:9″Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with malice. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they tell lies.” Psalm 17:3 “Though you probe my heart, though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil; my mouth has not transgressed.” Proverbs 16:23″The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent, and their lips promote instruction.” So how should we be? Psalm 19:14 “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

When it comes to your spiritual “ears” we are to guard our minds and our hearts to what we listen to.  The type of music with lyrics do they honor God or man?  Do we read lustful books or the Holy Bible?  What we put into our bodies is what we start behaving like.  Same as our church and pastors, do they preach about Jesus Christ or do they use Jesus for their own personal fame?  John warns us to discern where we learn by holding them to Jesus in 1 John 4:1 “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.   You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spiritof truth and the spirit of falsehood.”
